This work was commissioned by the Gerald Fagan Singers. The text, written by children held in the Nazi concentration camp Terezin, and undiscovered until after the war's end, speaks poignantly of the grief they experienced while simultaneously expressing a hope which couldn't be broken. This a cappella work begins and ends with a lament, symbolic of the Jewish people's mourning, but also speaking to the realization of how great a tragedy was committed. A very moving work.
